As in the past few years, the CLRt is running our Books for Classrooms contest again.  School classes from Kindergarten to grade 9 in Grande Prairie may present a project showing us why they need more books for their classroom.  For more information, please see our Events page.

100 Nights of Reading Starts Sunday, October 8

100 Nights of Reading kicks off in just a few days! If your family is up to the challenge of reading for 100 Nights in a row, it's time to get ready. Forms are available right here on our website.

Once you have your form in hand, the rest is simple... Starting on October 8, read together for 100 nights and keep track using the form.  Then drop off the completed form at the Children's Information Desk upstairs in the Grande Prairie Public Library by 9:00 pm on Monday, February 5.

100 Nights of Reading Starts October 19

100 Nights of Reading kicks off in just a few days! If your family is up to the challenge of reading for 100 Nights in a row, it's time to get ready. Forms are available at Grande Prairie Public Library or right here on our website.

Once you have your form in hand, the rest is simple... Starting on October 19, read every single day. Then, on Family Literacy Day, celebrate your achievement by dropping your form off at Grande Prairie Public Library and taking part in the literacy festivities around town. Forms received by February 3 will be entered in the prize draw.

Books for Classrooms

Books for Classrooms is a new initiative of the Children’s Literature Roundtable. Our goal is to get kids reading high quality books that they will enjoy, and we would like to meet this goal by providing a selection of great children’s books to ten deserving classrooms.

Any classroom from Kindergarten to Grade 8 within the City of Grande Prairie can apply to receive a selection of great children’s books for their classroom.

Michael Kusugak to Visit Grande Prairie

We are pleased to announce our 2015 Author Tour, featuring Michael Arvaarluk Kusugak. Michael will be giving readings at local schools and other venues during the week of January 19-23, 2015.

Michael's sessions are best suited to elementary students and are especially relevant for those studying Inuit cultures. However, Michael is also a fantastic storyteller who can entertain all ages. This video gives a small taste of Michael's style.

Reading Families Win

Congratulations to all of the families who were able to complete the amazing challenge of reading together for 100 consecutive days in the 100,000 Nights of Reading program!

We randomly selected 10 families to receive prize bags stuffed full of books, games, and activities. Here are a few photos of this year's winning families:
